Estes Proto-Z Beginner RC Drone Micro Quadcopter Unboxing, Review, and Maiden Flight



I just got the brand new Estes Proto-Z Beginner RC Drone Micro Quadcopter. As such, I am excited to share my Unboxing, Review, and Maiden Flight video with it as well as the test I put it through.

This RTF Quadcopter is the big little brother of the very popular Estes Proto-X Nano Drone only this one was designed specifically for beginners AND it has a flip function that the Proto X RC Quad did not have.

Here are my Starter Drone Review notes for the Proto Z RC Aircraft:

Pros:
- Good yaw rate
- Extremely stable
- Good flight times
- True Direction Mode
- Not very touchy on the controls

Cons:
- Only one flight mode
- Flips lose a lot of elevation
- Doing flips quickly drains the battery
- Not a good night flyer (I crashed it in the dark)

Both the Proto-Z and Proto-X are made by legendary Model Rocket maker Estes Industries who makes lots of different Estes Rockets.

Here is how Estes describes this beginner quadcopter:

"It's the ultimate user-friendly drone — the fastest, easiest and most economical way to start enjoying multi-rotor flying. Besides normal flight mode, the controller also features True Direction mode, a super innovation for first-time flyers that moves the Proto-Z in the same direction as the control sticks. Four LEDs also aid in flight orientation and tracking in the dark. The Proto-Z is great for indoor flying — it will fly for up to 5 minutes on a fully charged pack — and you can execute flips with just the push of a button!

The Proto-Z comes completely assembled, with a LiPo battery, USB charge cord and 4 spare props included. Just install two "AAA" batteries and start flying!"

The Proto-Z is about the same size as the Blade Nano QX and is a little bit bigger than the Blade Inductrix BNF multirotor.
