Everyone can "just run fast" but using basic sprinting technique will make you a more efficient and faster runner. If you want to improve, you need to develop you technique properly. All players may not run exactly the same, but the basic parts of technique are the same.
The 4 A's
Angle
When accelerating you want an angle of attack so you drive back into the ground. A 45-degree angle is the goal in pure acceleration. When you reach 'max velocity', you are up tall and running.
Ankle
A dorsi-flexed (ankle cocked up, not pointing down) ankle recovers faster for the next step and more importantly puts force into the ground faster. If your foot is dorsi-flexed as it hits the ground, your calf muscles are already stretched like a spring ready to explode.
Action
During acceleration it's a piston-like action. The knees punch forward and then drive back into the ground in a pushing action. This lets the hip and knee apply large forces to the ground and recover the leg quickly to do it again. Once you get up to speed your max velocity mechanisms are more of a step over and drive down. You quickly use the butt kick action to recover the leg and get it forward for the next stride. You aggressively drive down and back to keep your momentum going.
Arms
The arms drive back and rotate from the shoulders. Think about driving your elbows back behind because this helps drive the opposition leg back into the ground. Little choppy or reaching arms will only slow you down. The elbow stays around 90 degrees and opens a little in the back. Make sure that your arms match the legs. Have a longer range of motion as you accelerate and shorter range of motion when you reach max velocity.
So keep these highly effective speed techniques in mind and watch your speed progress dramatically.
