My uncle taught me building, and always told me, one of the main things to remember about building anything, if not done correctly, some problems can occur. If not built to proper specs, there is a good chance your ramps could collapse under your weight.

Build your ramps at an incline of no more than 3 "per vertical foot. In other words, for every 1 '(foot) of height length, your ramp should rise 1" (inch). It's really a simple calculation to figure out and you can use this method to help with many types of outdoor projects.

To steep of a ramp will cause problems. The main issue would be pulling your riding lawn mower into the shed and having the under blades hit the entrance. Another important issue to look out for is algae build up on the ramp. There is a chance of ice forming making it easy for you and your equipment to slip, possibly causing injury to you or someone nearby.

Build your ramps sturdy enough for the weight load it will be bearing. A Big sized lawn tractor and a full grown man will usually weigh between 6 and 7 hundred pounds.

Use 3/4 "pressure treated plywood for the ramp exterior. I would suggest 4" x4 "pressure treated wood for the framing and have them set at no more than 10" apart, this way you will ensure extra stability.

When the ramp surface gets wet, it is recommended that you use a non skid material or some rubber matting to prevent slipping. You can find various types of shed ramps at your local building supply stores, but these ramps will get pretty expensive.

The kids joined in on this project which made it interesting. I think my niece had the most fun. I let her paint the deck lime green. i figured it would light the deck a bit more for those late summer nights when pulling the equipment back into the shed.

A DIY ramp kit can be just as safe and even more effective if built properly.
